Healthy Pet Simply Feed Portion Check: Settings, Priming and Grams

Check refill priming, duplicate meal slots and actual food output on PFD00-14574. Keep cup or ml settings separate from weighed grams and calorie records.

Check the unit and the actual food first

When Healthy Pet Simply Feed PFD00-14574 seems to give the wrong amount, record the actual scheduled setting and the food that reached the bowl. Do not start by calling a cup “100 grams” or increasing the pet's daily food. The official support article identifies missing priming, duplicate feeding times, conveyor alignment and food debris as separate possible causes.

Confirm the model, food, current feeding instructions and the problem you observed. Wet or canned food is excluded by the reviewed manual. Its dry-only warnings conflict with semi-moist wording elsewhere; use the compatibility check and manufacturer clarification for that unresolved question. The checks below concern a supported dry food, not a trial of an unsupported format.

If meals have not been delivered, arrange the pet's care under its existing feeding instructions while addressing the device. Do not make the animal wait through repeated experiments or use a troubleshooting table to set an individual feeding allowance.

Read the setting without converting volume to weight

Four numbers that describe different things
NumberIts roleWhat it is not
A scheduled ½ cupThe device's programmed volume setting. An established weight in grams for every food.
A setting displayed in mlAnother volume display; the manual links it to 24-hour time format.Grams of dry food or its calories.
Measured food gramsThe mass observed in the collection bowl for that event.Proof that this was all eaten by one pet.
The food's kcal/kgAs-fed label energy per kilogram, used with matching food mass. The gram weight of a device cup.

The manual describes ⅛-cup (30 ml) increments, up to 4 cups, and automatic cup display with 12-hour time format or ml with 24-hour format. Record what the display actually shows. Do not treat the rounded printed cup/ml equivalents as laboratory calibration data or convert milliliters to grams using water density.

A matching food label may state kcal/cup, but that cup must have the same definition as the food quantity in question. For a weighed amount, the matching kcal/kg statement avoids inventing grams per cup: kcal/g = kcal/kg ÷ 1,000. The calorie-label guide keeps those fields separate.

Check refill and priming history

PetSafe's current priming article says to prime after every refill so the conveyor sections contain food. An unprimed conveyor can produce no food or less than programmed. Write the last refill and whether priming actually occurred; a full hopper does not answer that question.

For the documented priming sequence, unlock using the center/Enter and Up buttons together; use Down to enter Pause mode and confirm its icon; then press and hold center/Enter and Left together, releasing when the conveyor motor is heard. The source says to return food dropped into the bowl to the hopper and remove Pause mode with Down until the icon disappears. Follow the complete matching instructions and keep pets away from the moving device.

Food released during priming is not automatically a scheduled meal. Record it separately from food served to the pet. Only return clean food handled as the manufacturer describes; do not return bowl leftovers or food contaminated during a separate observation. Confirm that Pause mode is off and the next scheduled meal is visible before relying on delivery.

Check every meal slot and special mode

Two meal slots can be programmed for the same time. The official wrong-amount article identifies that as a reason for extra food. Review all slots rather than just the next meal on the operating display. The manual says unused slots should have no meal size or show “--- cup” or “--- ml”; save the actual slot number, time and size before making a documented change.

Feed Now/Immediate Feed advances the next scheduled meal; it is not a general extra-portion button. PetSafe says the screen then shows the meal after next, and two consecutive meals cannot be immediately fed. Record which event was advanced so another caregiver does not add the supposedly missed meal by hand.

PetSafe describes Slow Feed as dispensing a meal over 15 minutes, but its current instructions say a ⅛-cup meal cannot be divided into smaller portions. The current product page limits the feature to meals larger than ⅛ cup. Record the programmed size and whether Slow Feed actually applies before treating a midway observation as incomplete output. Pause mode stops scheduled delivery until canceled, and the unit must be in Operating rather than Setup mode to dispense. These state checks answer different questions from food weight. Do not infer a fault from a half-finished cycle alone.

Use the documented mechanism checks

The wrong-amount support page calls for checking the conveyor lip against the alignment arrows and considering debris buildup. The manual explains correct conveyor and hopper assembly and gives cleaning instructions. Consult those instructions instead of forcing a latch, modifying the mechanism or reaching into a moving conveyor.

The base and control panel must not be immersed. The conveyor is hand-washed with cool or warm soapy water and air-dried; it is not a dishwasher part. Disconnect power as instructed before taking off parts or cleaning. Reassemble only when dry, check alignment, and complete the documented refill/priming sequence.

Save any error code exactly. The 2014 manual routes F02 to Customer Care. PetSafe’s current F02 article identifies a switch or motor error and lists checking alkaline batteries, replacing them if needed, and following the manufacturer’s disassembly and cleaning instructions. These are documented checks, not permission to repair the switch or motor. Contact the manufacturer for persistent errors, damage or an unresolved discrepancy. A record can make that conversation precise without claiming a diagnosis of the machine.

Record one observed output and the limits of its arithmetic

Use an empty clean collection bowl on a suitable gram scale, note its tare/zero reading, and record the complete observed event without pet access. Keep time, setting, mode, refill history and the actual food together. If you observe more than one event, keep each reading; do not publish a mean that hides a missing cycle. This is an original recording method, not a manufacturer calibration tolerance or a test we performed.

As a real label-reading input, the reviewed Nulo Frontrunner Ancient Grains Beef, Barley & Lamb dog-food page states 3,677 kcal/kg and 433 kcal/cup, ME calculated. It does not supply a measured gram weight for this feeder's cup. We are not recommending that food or certifying it for the unit.

If an entirely fictional complete output weighs 25 g of that matching food, its label-based energy is 25 × 3.677 = 91.925 kcal, about 91.9 kcal for display. That arithmetic does not prove the output should weigh 25 g, that the food was eaten, or that the pet should receive 91.9 kcal. The food label's calculated energy and a kitchen reading also retain their own uncertainty.

Finish with a factual request: “This is my model and food, these are all meal slots and modes, this is my refill/priming history, and these are the complete observed outputs. Which setup or service check applies?” Keep any unresolved cup definition or device tolerance explicitly unknown.
