Identify the model before deciding what can go in it

For PetSafe Healthy Pet Simply Feed model PFD00-14574, the reviewed manufacturer manual says not to use canned, wet or moist dog or cat food. Do not put a canned meal into its hopper because the meal can be weighed, because it fits through an opening, or because another automatic feeder accepts wet food. Compatibility belongs to the actual device and its instructions.

Find the model on the unit and match it to the official support page. Record the country or market and the manual supplied with your own feeder. A product name alone is insufficient when products, revisions or accessories differ. The source checked here is the manual currently linked from the PFD00-14574 support page; its back cover identifies 400-1863/1 and copyright 2014. A current download link does not change that document date.

This guide reads manufacturer instructions. We have not tested this feeder, measured its temperature or evaluated a pet's diet. Use the complete instructions for your own unit and obtain manufacturer clarification when they conflict.

Keep the semi-moist wording conflict visible

What the reviewed manufacturer materials actually say
MaterialFood wordingWhat remains unresolved
Manual page 2; warning box on page 14Dry food only; no wet, canned or moist food. These warnings are narrower than the semi-moist wording elsewhere.
Manual page 9, Food TypesDry or semi-moist dog or cat food; no canned, wet or moist food. The manual itself uses both formulations.
Current product and support descriptionsDry or semi-moist food; conveyor description lists kibble up to ¾ inch diameter.A size statement does not identify every acceptable recipe or resolve the warning.

The manual explicitly excludes canned or wet food. The product and support descriptions mention dry or semi-moist food; that wording does not authorize a wet meal. The unresolved inconsistency concerns semi-moist food. Do not quietly remove the warning, decide that the sales page supersedes it, or claim that the old date makes it irrelevant. We have no manufacturer response resolving that inconsistency.

For a semi-moist product, send PetSafe the model, manual identifier and photographs of the applicable warning together with the exact food name and form. Ask which instruction applies to that unit and whether that specific food is supported. Preserve the written answer and its date. Until the question is resolved, do not treat this article as approval of that food.

A change to the food creates a fresh compatibility question

“It started as dry kibble” does not establish that kibble mixed with water, gravy or canned food remains an approved hopper food. The reviewed instructions do not authorize those alterations. The same applies to adding a wet topper to a hopper of otherwise matching dry food. A mixture must not inherit approval from just one component.

Check each food and accessory against the current instructions. The product description's ¾-inch kibble limit is a stated size boundary, not a recommendation for a brand, a moisture test or a guarantee against blockage. An unknown measurement remains unknown. Do not alter the conveyor, add an improvised cooling insert or force food through it to make an unsupported format work.

The manual also limits the unit to indoor household use and says to check dispensing frequently. Its page 2 excludes use with puppies, kittens, animals unable to reach the tray, or animals with a physical disability. Those are manufacturer restrictions; the automatic schedule does not establish suitability for every dog or cat.

A timer does not establish wet-food storage

Food-format compatibility and food storage are two separate checks. A rotating tray feeder that expressly supports wet food would still need its own device instructions and the actual food's storage requirements. Nothing in this conveyor feeder's programmed meal times establishes refrigeration or a safe holding duration for opened canned food.

FDA advises promptly refrigerating unused or leftover canned and pouched pet food, tightly covered, or discarding it; its refrigerator temperature is 40°F or below. These directions do not supply a universal number of hours that wet food can wait in an automatic feeder. An ice-pack count, the room feeling cool or the food smelling ordinary cannot fill an unrecorded storage gap.

Keep the exact package and applicable manufacturer instructions with a feeding plan. For ordinary unused contents and bowl leftovers, read the wet-food storage guide. It separates those states without inventing a device-specific cooling result.

Your unit is PFD00-14574 and the intended food is canned or wet.Do not use that food in this feeder. Arrange a method consistent with the existing feeding plan and food requirements.Model, food, applicable prohibition and alternative arrangement.
A semi-moist food is proposed and the reviewed documents conflict.Obtain model-specific manufacturer clarification before relying on compatibility. Both passages, food identity, question and actual response.
An appropriate supported food is used but output seems wrong.Use the model-specific dispensing checks; do not solve it by changing the pet's diet.Food, settings, refill/priming history and observed output.

Once compatibility is clear, check dispensing and its units. Keep the portion and schedule agreed for the individual pet separate from device capability. If a feeding or health concern needs veterinary advice, arrange that advice instead of relying on a manufacturer preset or changing a diet to fit the hopper.
